Internal Medicine

Diagnosing and treating internal disease.

There are many serious diseases that can affect the internal body systems of your pet, such as kidney disease, liver disease, respiratory disease and endocrine disorders to name a few. And they are often difficult to diagnose. If your vet suspects your pet has such a condition, you may be referred to a veterinary internist who specializes in diagnosing and treating these serious diseases.

At the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware, our board-certified internal medicine specialists have the knowledge and experience necessary to identify your pet's problem and put him or her on the road to recovery with the appropriate treatment plan.

Your pet's specialized care is supported by an experienced internal medicine nursing staff, advanced diagnostic equipment, and access to special laboratories for the most accurate diagnosis. From your initial hour-long appointment, our internists are committed to finding the right health care solution for your four-legged family member.

Our internal medicine services include:

  • Endoscopy (flexible and rigid) for gastrointestinal, lower airway, upper airway, and urinary examination
  • Bone marrow studies
  • Skin punch biopsies

A board-certified veterinary internal medicine specialist is a veterinarian who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the body's internal systems, and is certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
