In the past decades much advancement has been achieved in the science and art of anesthesia, perioperative pain management and critical patient care. In parallel expectations for improved and safe anesthesia and analgesia in animals increased within the general public. Therefore, advanced education of veterinary technicians in veterinary anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care is necessary to satisfy the growing expectations of both the veterinary community and animal owners and to optimize health care of our animals in the future. The course program is directed towards licensed animal health technicians with focused interest in small animal anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care and potentially the desire to pursue in the future a career as veterinary technician specialist (VTS) in anesthesia & analgesia. The 4-module course combines traditional methods of lecturing and laboratory/workshop teaching with the new technology of on-demand e-learning. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to obtain certification in basic and advanced techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation from the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care. The AVTAA will designate a total of 90 continuing education (CE) credits upon successful completion of the program.
